We're ending 2018 on a high note. This week we hit our record number of orders since transitioning to our new shopping website this past May. We feel lucky that we are able to offer healthy foods that feel useful to our members! We couldn't have had the success that we have without your participation. We appreciate all of you that provided useful feedback and encouragement when we needed it the most. We also appreciate everyone who told their friends and neighbors about what we offer. We hope that we have helped make it a little easier to incorporate more healthy foods into your meals. We also would like to thank all of our volunteers that help make the distribution happen week after week. We depend on volunteers to help pack our orders and make sure that all of the distributions run smoothly. They have each put hours of time and effort into making their distributions visible, accessible, and fun! We're excited for another year of supporting our local growers and offering healthy foods to members in our communities. Thank you all for being part of MoGro!

Looking forward to what's coming...

We have a list of projects we are planning to work on in the new year, the first of which is our online presence. We have recognized a need to make our website more true to who we feel that we are as an organization. This means a few things, but most importantly: more photos! Photos of our members, our sites, our food, and our volunteers. We feel proud of all of our friends and neighbors that make MoGro possible and we want to share it with everyone. We will be hiring a photographer, taking a few photos ourselves, and having our volunteers at each site take some as well.

We want to encourage all of you to take photos too! We would love to see photos of the meals you create with MoGro Share items, photos of your families and whatever else you feel captures the essence of MoGro. We feel that this is a community-driven and community-supported organization and we want to see what that means for all of you!

It is common to hear people talk about "eating seasonally" but how do you keep track of what's in season? And does it really matter?

While it is getting easier and easier to access non-seasonal produce year round, leaning toward the fruits and veggies that grow best during the current season can have great benefits. Seasonal produce is fresher and has been shown to have a more nutrients compared to their out-of-season counterparts. Unlike the out-of-season produce which is harvested early in order to be shipped and distributed to your local retail store, crops picked at their peak of ripeness are also better tasting and full of flavor. Additionally, seasonal food is less expensive due to its abundance! Here is a list of seasonal winter produce to look out for:
Apples
Avocados
Bananas
Beets
Brussels Sprouts
Cabbage
Carrots
Celery
Collard Greens
Grapefruit
Kale
Kiwifruit
Leeks
Lemons
Limes
Onions
Oranges
Parsnips
Pears
Pineapples
Potatoes
Pumpkins
Rutabagas
Sweet Potatoes
Yams
Swiss Chard
Turnips
Winter Squash
